The Mac Marine History

The Mac Boats first began in Tauranga, New Zealand, in 1986. The first development was a Polyethylene 2.1 metre (8ft) dinghy. This little dinghy was a great success with national sales and exports to Japan, Canada, U.S, and Australia in small numbers. It wasn’t long until a 3.4 metre boat was introduced to the range. Both these boats are still being sold some 20 years after the first boats were developed.

The Plasma Boat Corporation

In 1988 Plasma Boat Corporation Ltd was incorporated and the development of the first pontoon Mac Boat, 5.7metre (18ft.) boat, was launched. This design was the basis of the current designs that are being used by Mac Marine today. The 5.7 metre boat was very successful initially with sales being achieved both commercially and for the recreational purchases. Sales to the King of Tonga, King Taufa’ahau Tupou VI, Pearl divers in Tahiti, commercial diving schools, which are some of the sales internationally achieved during this period. The first boat to Australia and the U.S were actually air freighted!! In the years since these developments thousands of boats have been produced and sold in New Zealand and across the globe. Mac Boats now has a massive following and an enviable loyalty amongst owners and users.

New Zealand

New Zealand is an ideal testing ground for this development with access to some of the most advanced marine Architects, Engineers, and material manufacturers, and the history that has evolved from the America’s Cup campaigns, Mac Marine continues to evolve new designs in boats. The Southern Ocean which we are surrounded by in New Zealand provides some of the best testing grounds to test our theory of designs under rough natural conditions.

Mac Boats Today

Mac Boats is a division of Galloway International Ltd which is a New Zealand owned and operated company specialising in large, rotationally moulded polyethylene products. The company has more than 30 years experience in local and international markets. Garth Galloway has been the driver behind this company moving  forward with new initiatives and developments while creating new partnerships for the future. 

Today

Today with our modern factory we can produce from concept.

• We design, mould, manufacture, fit out and finish our boats.
• We have developed a new oven system, and with the smart technology of internal temperature control, we are able to provide a quality control system second to none.
• We are currently working with world-class designers on new projects and with Queen’s University in Belfast and Auckland University on further enhancing the technology to improve the performance and safety to a greater level.
• With our Gyrotech technology we will continue to lead the world in the production of Polyethylene boats.
